A Very Red Christmas

For more than 60 years, the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner has provided a hearty Christmas Day meal for all who visit. Held at the Cox Convention Center beginning at 9 a.m., the annual event continues a tradition launched after World War II by Ernest "Red" Andrews, a scrappy fight promoter who wanted to bring the spirit of the season to those down on their luck.

There is always plenty of work for the volunteers needed to dish out turkey, mashed potatoes and more to about 7,000 diners. Dinner organizers say volunteers should just show up any time at 8 a.m. or thereafter on Christmas Day, and you can help spread the Yuletide cheer.
