A Trip Back to 1934

What comes to mind when you think of the Great Depression? Amazing works of art might not be at the forefront, but they are among the wonderful unexpected discoveries of “1934: A New Deal for Artists,” a fascinating exhibition at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Over a six-month period in 1934, the New Deal’s Public Works of Art Project paid unemployed Americans to produce artwork to enhance public buildings. The results, as evidenced by this exhibition that runs through Aug. 21, were stunning. Brother, can you spare a paintbrush?
